Squiddy - day 1

Today was really fun. We walked up to a high point of Benmore and we dipped our heads in fresh water running out of a pipe. But I was really tired and homesick near the end of the day. We’re going on a night walk tonight. It will be really fun and scary. I am getting less tired as I am writing this. We had fish cakes and chips for tea. In my dorm there are: Fish, Bizz, Tashmeer, Cpt. Chaos and me.

Star

When we got off the bus and unloaded our things, we met our leaders and did stuff. My group were on a local walk first. We went through the Botanic Gardens and went along a track called Puddle Lane. We also looked at the river which was very low. The meter there showed how high the river was had the water flowing under the one metre mark. After that, we did our dorms and unpacked. We got our Benmore waterproofs and then we got a tour of the building. After that we had a big meeting in the common room and then my group laid the tables for tea. After tea, we laid the table for breakfast. Then we did diary time and after that we went for a night walk. It was a brilliant day!

Izzy - day 1

It took about 4 hours to arrive here. We first went on a nature trail. It was ok. Our instructor was called Mark. There was also a training student called Hannah. What was strange though was everyone else seemed to do much more exciting things like walking up rivers and getting wet while all we did was walk down a road and learn about trees! :I

Did you know? The river we were walking next to is very rich in fish. They charge £20,000 a year for a licence to fish there!!!

After that we chilled out a bit but before that our group (group 7) had to set the table for dinner. For tea we had fish cakes, chips and peas. For pudding we had yoghurt and fruit.

We are just about to go on a night walk through the trees in the woods. NO TORCHES! IT’S GOING TO BE AWESOME!

Tashmeer - day 1

It’s been great so far. When we got here we brought our luggage into the hall and then our group went to a walk. There were tags on all the trees from all around the world. Then we unpacked and saw our dorms. The people in my dorm are Squiddy, Fish, Captain Chaos, Bizz and me, Tashmeer, and the night walk is tonight.

Murrzo - day 1

On the way to Benmore we stopped off at Luss for lunch.
When we got to Benmore everyone was sooooo excited! First we put all our stuff in our rooms. Then we went on a big walk outside Benmore. We went walking up and down rivers. There were tubes and tunnels that we had to go under and they had water going through them and everyone got really wet!!

Bee - day 1

Today was fab! When we arrived we got a tour of the Benmore Centre. It’s really big! After we got shown around and we basically unpacked, we went and got our waterproofs and boots and went for a look around outside. We walked up and down rivers, up hill and down hill. We got very wet and very muddy. Murrzo was very fast at climbing up and down the river and I was always last. But I don’t mind that. Then we dried off. After we had some free time and then we went for tea. Tonight is the night walk and I am so exited! We start at 8.00 pm and I’m not sure what time we finish, ha ha! I’m really happy and excited about tomorrow! I can’t wait!

Dizzee

It’s been great so far. I sat next to Bizz on the bus and when we arrived I was so excited. First we got shown round and met the other school. We had free time and me, Bizz, Fish, Captain Chaos, Tashmeer and Squiddy played football against the other school. Dinner was nice. We are about to go on the night walk. It’s going to be fun.

Brownie - day 1

Dear Mum and Dad,

I miss you lots! When we got to Luss we got out and fed ducks and swans (one came out of the water – eek!). At Benmore we went up to the view point. The lady said the water was clean so we could drink it. It was sooo cold and fresh. The water was dripping down from slime! We started sticking our heads under. We get tea and cake every day (cool!). In my group are Milz, Ponakins, Rascal, Nevis, Squiddy and Swagger.

Milz - day 1

When we got to Benmore we had a look round, met our instructor and got our waterproofs and boots. We did our first activity today. We walked up to a viewpoint and there was a waterfall and you could drink it. It was really tasty. We all put our heads under the stream and we got brain freeze! When we got back to our dorm me and Ponakins unpacked. We had fish cakes and chips for tea. We are going on a night walk at 8 o’ clock. It’s really dark already!

Moonbeam - day 1

We arrived at Benmore with hope for the weather. It was sunny for a change! I sat next to Kizzy on the bus and we plugged our MP4’s and iPods into my speaker so we could all listen to the music.

Benmore is an old house and was passed into Benmore’s hands when the owner couldn’t keep it running so they got it free as long as they used it for educational purposes.

First we got taken on a woodland walk (and the sun was still shining!) and then we got a tour of the house. Lastly we found our dorms and unpacked. I’m in a dorm with Star, Brownie and Nevis.

Captain Chaos - day 1

Today we went to Benmore. On the bus it took four hours. When we arrived we got a tour and got shown our dorms. I am in a dorm with Bizz, Tashmeer, Squiddy and Fish. In the afternoon we did jungle bashing when we went up rivers and pipes.

Kizzy

Today was a great day because I got to Benmore after 4 hours but it was so worth it. We went on a big long walk with our new group and it was such a lovely day to go for a walk. I can’t wait for tomorrow. We are in the morning at the rope course which looks so good. I can’t wait and in the afternoon we are going kayaking. Oh, I almost forgot – tonight we are on the night walk. It rocks. I am loving Benmore.

Nevis - day 1

Today we arrived. We got taken over everything. The first activity was to have a look at the Botanic Garden. Benmore is in the middle of it. It was very fun. At the top there was this tube which had water coming out of it and slime was coming down it. The instructor (Bella) said it was fresh. Ponakins, Brownie, Swagger, Milz and Rascal went a little crazy with the water. They ended up ducking their whole heads in the water! Ha ha ha ha! Next we did a challenge to go through this gorge/river walk and to get to the end. It was very fun. I did stick my head in the water but not much. For dinner I had fish, chips, peas and some tomato ketchup.

Fets - day 1

Today at Benmore our group went on a walk. We looked at some of the trees on the walk and some plants. We went up a wee river. I bashed my head two times. We had to go through some holes. We went back to the house.

Pony - day 1

Today was our first day at Benmore! We got lots done after the pretty boring bus journey! Firstly we got settled in and did the usual like go over safety or where the fire exits are! After that we went down the Jungle Bash. It was great! We were climbing up mini waterfalls and scrambling up rocks. Our instructor was called Neil. He’s a good leader! In my group there was Murrzo, Bizz, Captain Chaos, Fets, Menace, Bee and myself. It’s a brilliant group. After the jungle bash we went back for free time and then tea! (Which was fishcakes). Now we are going to go on the night walk but we haven’t done it yet so I can’t tell you much about it! Tonight our bedtime is 9.30!!!!!!!!!!
Today was amazing!

Menace

Today we started off by going on a nature walk (Mum, it was a lot more exiting than the walks you take us on!). It was really good. The guide told us trees and plants. There’s this really big tree that…well, it’s huge. We did a sort of gorge walk. We had to climb through pipes to get there – uggggh. On the river walk we had to climb up and then back down. I slipped down a rock, even though Captain Chaos, Bizz and Murrzo told me to be careful. LOL. So I got very wet. More tomorrow. Love you all. Miss you too. Love from Menace.

Ponakins - day 1

On the way we stopped off at Luss for lunch and a run around. We got to Benmore at 2.15 and had a look around. We got shown our dorms and then started to unpack.
Our first activity was walking up to the view point. There was a little waterfall that you could drink. I put my whole head under. Then everyone else did it.
We had fish cakes for tea! (They weren’t very nice).

Bizz - day 1

Today we had a look around Benmore. We got to go into some woods to discover all of the trees and the wild life.
We also got a waterproof coat, waterproof trousers and big boots.
When we were on the bus I sat next to Kizzy. The people in my dorm are me, Captain Chaos, Fish, Squiddy and Tashmeer.

Fish - day 1

Today was the first day of Benmore. The guides gave us a big tour around the Botanic Gardens and land of Benmore. We all got to see the history of the old land and were shown around the tower and house. We were also shown our dorms. In my dorm there are Bizz, Squiddy, Captain Chaos and Tashmeer. Our group got to walk through the botanic gardens and look at all the trees. In our group there are Kizzy, Tashmeer, Dizzee, Nony, Moonbeam, Star and Izzy. For tea we had fishcakes and chips and yoghurt for dessert and we are just about to do the night walk.

Nonny - day 1

Today we got all our equipment and had a look round Benmore and we got settled in.

Rascal - day 1

go to Benmore. After we got off the bus we stopped at Luss for lunch. We climbed trees. Went down to a beach bit and looked at the ducks and swans.

We finally arrived at Benmore and had a drink and a biscuit and found out our groups and our instructors. Then we got uniforms (boots, trouser and jackets).
Ponakins, Brownie, Milz, Swagger and me went for a walk thing and stopped at a waterfall and we put our heads in the water. It was so fun.

For tea we had fishcakes. I didn’t really like them but of course I ate them.

Swagger - day 1

When we got off the bus we got shown around the house. After we got unpacked we went into our first activity, the jungle bash. Our group were putting their heads under the slimy cold water. I did it too. We all got to get a drink out of the water. We had to go down a little river with slippy rocks and prickly branches. There was a sharp rock. Captain Chaos sliced his palm open but apart from that it was great. We are just about to go on the night walk. I hear it’s very mad and this time it will be at night.

Note from Mr Devereux: Captain Chaos didn’t hurt himself much – no trip to hospital!

The Risk Factory

On 26th February we went to a place called The Risk Factory. We can't tell you anything about what we did because the P6 class will be going next yearand we can't ruin the surprise by telling them what happened. All we can tell you is that it was really fun and some of the activities were quite scary. We had to do activities that involved real life situations like fires and how to be safe in situations.
