We all had an awesome time at Benmore and we will miss it very much!! :( Some people at the start thought they would be very homesick but they found themselves not missing mum or dad at all and not wanting to go home. We all will miss Benmore. Some of us at the weekend felt like jumping into a river or getting very muddy and wet. Also a lot of us faced our fears and went up high in to the sky and some went in small spaces. :) We are now back at school with our normal lessons like maths, language and writing so we are still getting used to it!
We are all wanting to back to Benmore one day and hopfully we will and do lots of fun activites again! :D

Mr Devereux - day 5
We had a smooth journey back. There was one sticky moment when delicate negotiations were required to deal with a nasty hostage situation. Frog and Amber had been kidnapped. After careful negotiation a swap of hostages was arranged and the animals were very relieved to be back with their owners, Murrzo and Brownie. The situation arose over attempts by Nevis to take a photo of Murrzo. Murrzo was having none of it.
Benmore was an amazing experience for us all. The class behaved brilliantly, tried hard and had a lot of fun. They kept quiet in dorms when they were told to (most of the time), ate well and showed a lot of maturity and independence. Parents, you can be proud of them. And now it's time for the awards ceremony:
The disco award goes to Milz. The yacking award is shared between Izzy, Kizzy and Pony. The tidy dorm award goes to all the boys. The soaking award goes to Ponakins. Moonbeam gets the sunken boot prize. Fets gets the marathon award for the most miles walked back and forth along the boys' corridor. Must tire you out because you also get the best sleeper award. Squiddy - you get the SAS award for your dive roll across the bed in a black balaclava. The whole of the horse dorm get the random giggling AND the torches-after-lights-out award. The big girls' dorm get the prize for unknowingly sharing the most class gossip and secrets with Mr Devereux by chatting loudly after lights out when he was outside in the corridor. Bee gets the 'Did you know tomorrow's my birthday?' award. Fish gets the volume award (you've lost first place, Bizz!). You also get the vertical take-off award for your levitation at the end of the ghost story. Brownie gets an award for not being able to keep on a plaster on a knee for more that 5 minutes. Dizzee and Bizz share the cool hat award. Tashmeer gets the yacking award for the boys' dorms. Nonny gets the tennis balls in bizarre places award. Nevis, Moonbeam, Star and Brownie share the jumble award for their ideas about packing. Rascal gets the ambassador award for most contact with Mauricewood. Menace gets the speaking diary award - your comments were so you! Captain Chaos and Nonny get the hairbrush award. Murrzo, of course, gets the camera-shy award. And Swagger, you get the organisation award for looking after your dorm so well.
Well done, guys! See you on Monday.

Day 5 pictures
Mr Devereux - day 4
We’ve had another amazing day. I hope you’re enjoying the photos. I’ve spent one day with each of the three groups. I expect that you have noticed already that there is one set of children who appear each day; by the end of camp, everyone should have made some kind of appearance. Some of the activities are easier to snap than others. I risked taking the camera with me when I abseiled into the caves, but couldn’t take it on the gorge walk. Going under the Rock of Africa would have ended its life.
Today I managed a first: during caving I went through ‘the slot’ which is a narrow space which drops down from a low passage in the ‘Diddy Pit’ cave into a second passage. Most adults take the longer ‘S’ bend, but the instructor thought I might fit the slot. “How much do you weigh?” he asked. When I told him, he said it should work. Thankfully I got through but there was quite a pressure on my ribs as I slid down. The children pinged through easily. In fact every single member of my group went down St Thomas’s passage which I think is also a record for Yester. Well done, Nonny, Tashmeer, Dizzee, Star, Moonbeam, Nevis and Kizzy!
Good news for anxious parents: no wellies were lost today.
Bee has been having a brilliant birthday all day. Thanks for the cake, Bee’s mum – it tasted lovely. Ponakins managed to get wet again today. In fact when she was beginning to dry out, she and Swagger filled boots with water and tipped them over each other. Hurray! Ponakins was wet again! The water in the gorge walk wasn’t nearly as cold as I thought it would be in March. Dizzee says it’s nothing compared to swimming in Loch Eck. Today I managed to get a snap of Murrzo when she wasn’t looking. Hee-hee.
Tonight is the disco and the excitement is mounting: the boys are…er…packing just now while the girls are getting themselves ready for the disco. Ponakins is running a hair salon in one of the girls’ dorms, offering blow dry, hair straightening and brushing services. She has a massive queue.
Watch out for the photos from the boys’ dorms: deodorants and toothbrushes on parade. Also some good news: one of the girls’ dorms achieved 10/10 this morning!

Nonny - day 4
The caving was great. It was probably my favourite activity and we went under a big rock and the rock was called Africa and there was a water slide which was so fun.
Moonbeam - day 4
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEE!
This is our last day at camp and we had an amazing line-up of activities waiting for us. First we walked up a part of ‘Benmore Mountain’ to the caves (that’s where we did our caving). It’s was a really steep hill and my legs got tired easily.
Then we went gorge walking and it really was AMAZING!! We walked up a river and we did soooo many activities up the stream.

Milz - day 4
Last night Mr Devereux told us a really scary story. We all screamed at the end! We also did a quiz last night as well. Our team got the lowest score! LoL!!!
This morning we went canoeing. I sent in a canoe with Brownie and Ponakins. Then me and Ponakins went in a boat on our own. It was good fun.
After lunch our group went gorge walking. It was amazing! First we climbed up a waterfall. It was really scary! Then a bit further up the gorge there was a huge rock you could crawl through (you had to crawl through freezing water!). Only three people from our group did it (me, Ponakins and Swagger). Ponakins and Swagger did it twice. Then we all slid down rocks into a freezing cold pool of water. Gorge walking was amazing even though I was frozen!!!!!!
It’s the disco tonight! We are all really excited! (The sweets are half price too!). Oh, it’s Bee’s 12th birthday. Benmore is amazing!
Bye!!

Kizzy - day 4
Yesterday night was a quiz. It was fun because you had to hunt around outside and inside for facts and information. But I had to stop my quiz because Brownie fell over and I helped and stayed with her. It was fun and I did not mind about the quiz at all. I can’t wait to go home but I don’t want to go. Today we did caving and gorge walking. It was so much fun. At the caving we abseiled down a hole in to the cave and in gorge walking I got so wet and we slid and slid down the river and it was named a slide. I had great fun.

Brownie - day 4
It was amazing today. We did canoeing this morning and gorge walking. It was sooooo fun. Canoeing was good but really hard. I was in a canoe with Ponakins and Milz (we had hot juice). In the afternoon we did gorge walking. It was freezing!!!! At the top of the gorge there was a slide. We all sat down and made the water build up and that would give us a big boost! It was soo fun!!!
Pony - day 4
On our fourth day at Benmore we went gorge walking in the morning and canoeing in the afternoon!
I’ll start off with gorge walking. The gorge starts at the edge of a graveyard. It ends at the top where we walk down a rocky and slippy path! In the gorge it’s very, very wet and slidy. One of the funniest parts was going up a small waterfall. It’s called the keyhole. It was really fun. Our instructor, Neil, was really helpful.
After lunch of soup and rolls we went canoeing! I was with Murrzo. It was really, really windy and it was raining. It got too hard to paddle so we all got in two canoes and tied them together. It was much easier! After diaries we are going to have our disco! We’re all really excited.

Rascal - day 4
It’s the disco tonight. I can’t wait. Today we went for a gorge walk. It was so fun but we got totally wet so it wasn’t exactly my favourite thing but it was fun-ish. We also went canoeing. At first we just practised in a shallow bit of the loch, but then we just got the hang of it and then started going around and doing the limbo under trees.
My instructor is really nice. She is called Bella and she’s from Sweden.

Fish - day 4
Today was the last full day at Benmore and one the most fun days, going caving in the morning and doing gorge walking in the afternoon. In the caving we had to walk up Benmore hill over rocks and mud until we reached the first cave. We lined up and were lowered down a crack in the cave and climbed across rocks and then climbed across a rock face and to a ladder to get our. We then climbed more to the other cave which was much tighter called the Diddy Pit and then through St Thomas’s Passage. In the afternoon we did the gorge walk. We had to start by walking through a graveyard until we reached the gorge and did all sorts of activities and did the keyhole and under Africa and then on the loony slides but then when we got back we had to clean our waterproofs and boots and are now just about to do the disco.
Menace - day 4
Oh well, today was our last day! And I just noticed that I’ve not said anything about our instructor! Well our instructor was called Neil. He was really nice. Neil played loads of games with us. Today he told us stories. All the other groups liked him too!
Last night Mr Devereux told us a ghost story. It was pretty scary! And then we went out to do a quiz with Neil and Bella. The quiz was inside and outside. The questions were really hard! My team did quite well actually. One of the questions was to write poem about our instructors. My one was really funny.
Today we went gorge walking and canoeing. In the gorge walk it was really slippy. There was a bit where you had to hold on to a rope and pull yourself up. That’s where I slipped (typical). And now I have a very sore leg! But Bizz found it funny! Just before that we had to climb through a rock and a waterfall was pouring down. Then we had to push ourselves up. And we went down a slide at the end (freezing!). It all went down my trousers.
The canoeing was ok. But it was a bit boring. We all stood up and rowed like Native Americans.
Lots of love,
